i was reading this article: How one family broke its junk food addiction and i must say that i can relate to it pretty well. Labels: life stories, random, resolution
When I was in Jakarta, I eat home made food everyday, because there's maid that cooked 3 meals for us everyday. My parents didn't let me eat KFC or McDonald's coz, well, they weren't big on western food, preferring more towards the Chinese taste *shrugs*
The moment I stepped out of Jakarta and started living away from my parents, which was when I was about 12, that was when junk food started coming into my life. Sure, in Penang there were still maid that cooked for us at night and in the afternoon, and in school I ate canteen food (though I'm not sure how they were prepared...) but I ate much more junk food than I had been in the first 12 years of my life.
When I went to Singapore, I stayed with families that cooked for us too. I guess my parents were already pretty aware that home made food are better than outside food, so they went the extra length to ensure me and my siblings always stayed in places that have someone cooking home made meals for us. Their choices weren't always great in terms of the character of the family, but it was based on good intention.
It was when I went to live in Beijing that I was relying entirely on outside food, coz I couldn't cook. Everyday, 3 meals and countless snacks a day, were bought outside. People say that most of those who went to Beijing gained about 3-5kg in average, sometimes more. Considering that most of them came straight from home in Indonesia where they have been eating home made food throughout their entire lives, it made sense. I didn't gained too much weight, only about 1-2kg, which was my normal weight fluctuations (during holiday when I go back to Jkt, I would shed 1-2kg, and when i'm back in Singapore I usually gained them back >.>) but I heard stories from friends who gained up to 10kg during her cuisine trip around Beijing.
It was only for the last several months that I started eating home made food again. This time, me and Markus who prepared them. I understood her pains when she started this challenge. When we started cooking our own food, we noticed 2 things: it's time consuming and it's costly! we can spend the whole day in the kitchen preparing 2 meals (lunch and dinner mostly), each meal taking about 2-3 hours to prepare starting from the buying of groceries and preparing them. then it took another hour to consume, coz I have the habit of eating while watching a movie.
And, because the most accessible place for us to get our food stuff is a supermarket, we could spend 200RMB for each supermarket trip, just for our food! That's like 40SGD a trip! Well it doesn't sound much if I converted it to SGD, but a takeout meal from nearby restaurant usually cost us around 20-30RMB at most, sometimes it could go as low as 10RMB, so 200RMB could cover my eating expenses for more than 10days! And each trip could only cover our meal for about a day... So, it was very, very costly indeed.
Our largest expenditure came from fruits. A bag of sunkist consisting of 5 sunkist could cost as much as 30RMB in Ito Yokado supermarket. Later on, we started shopping at WalMart at Wangjing, coz they have cheaper fruits and stuff. Still, Walmart is considerably further away than Ito, so what we saved in our food expenses went to the cab fare home >.>
But, like what the lady said in the article, after eating home made food for so long, I don't find takeout meals tasty anymore. Takeout meals and meals at the restaurant taste more like food that I eat just because I have to fill my stomach, it became a mechanical need that I have to satisfy. Compared to that, home made food taste much tastier even though they were infinitely simpler. Lately me and my circle of friends started to become more used to inviting each other for meals at home when one of us would cook. Those home made food are way better than restaurant food, even if they were prepared by a bunch of students who sometimes have no experience in cooking (me! xD)
When I said that "the most accessible place for us to get our food stuff is a supermarket" I meant it was the most "accessible". There is a wet market that is about the same distance as the supermarket, but to go there we had to walk, and these walks are quite lengthy especially if you're carrying bags of groceries. The stuff in the wet market are so much cheaper, of course, but they were also of lower quality. If the sweetness of the fruits in Ito is 100, then the ones in Jingang might be only 50? But they were so much cheaper, honestly.
Despite the cost and time, I'm glad for this new habit of mine. For one, I lost 2kg without knowing it, seriously, during the time when I was eating home made food. We tried eating outside again for about a week, and I gained some weight, proving that it was the home food that made me lost weight indeed. I was too surprised at the weight loss. For one, I could only lose some weight at home because I was exercising on the treadmill pretty often. But in Beijing I did ZERO exercise, and I lost 2kg in a month 0.0 It was quite shocking that I was convinced that the weighing machine was broken xD
In Singapore I'm going to try eating at home too. Yesterday I bought some potatoes, cheese and eggs, the 3 ingredients that I used to most in Beijing. And I'm learning about food, slowly. Like, Russet potatoes are NOT suitable for the sliced potato dish that I usually make in Beijing >.> Now I gotta make baked potatoes with the leftover Russet potatoes I bought v_v
With this, I have finished one task in my new year resolution! which is to learn to cook! And i achieved another unspoken goal as well, which was to reach 55kg by the end of the year. Every year I set a target weight which I would be aiming towards, nothing big, like 1-2kg every year. This year I've reached the target and lost some more, because of the home made food! Now I'm going to aim for 53kg, with exercise! ^^

for the want of drama, SME let yunho and changmin acted in their new MV, Before U Go. while the one containing the song Before U Go was only about 4 minutes, the full version that includes excerpts of Keep Your Head Down and several other songs was more than 10 minutes long. Labels: changmin, comment: MV, dbsk, yunho
and while it's pretty long for an MV, i love it! except for the ending, but i shan't spoil it for you if you haven't watched it yet.
honestly, i was disappointed with Yunho's acting in Heading to the Ground. but, hey, i finished watching it the series!! *unlike Miss Ripley in which i stopped watching halfway coz i can't stand mi ri* and i haven't watched changmin in paradise meadow yet.
but i know for sure that i like their acting in this MV, well most of the time anyway. and i was having such bad goosebumps since the start til the middle during the ballad. that's how much the MV affected me. it was a mizture of action, thriller, a little bit of mystery, and a huge dose of lipsmacking handsomeness and coolness in it.
i hate SME. but i really like this MV!!
*spoiler alert*
my fave part would be when changmin was doing his little investigation. he looks amazing there, absolutely gobsmackingdelicious *_*
oh, and the action part during which they were kicking the bad guys ass off, that was awesome! i havem't seen yunho's flying kick in such a long time, i really kinda miss it 8D well, all in all when you have 184cm and 186 cm guy swinging their feet about kicking bad guys off, there is very little chance it'll end up bad xD
seriously, they should let changmin jump and hop more often. that guys is so light on his feet despite his towering 186cm frame! *_*
changminnie i miss watching your snark TT TT
yesterday i was watching JYJ's twitter talk in their concert talk. i know in the past TVXQ interactions, the people who were more likely to talk were also jaechunsu, but when changminnie joins in he's just hilarious in his sarcastic way... and when yunho comes in, everyone just remembers where they were and their own place, he brings law and order, leadersshi....
jaechunsu were my fave. but i love changminnie and leadersshi too.
miss you, TV5XQ...

or not cheating? whichever it is, the recent Seoul International Drama award that had just been given to him was definitely marred with scandal.
i'm not a fan of JGS. i'm not an anti either. i have completely normal relationship with him. in fact, other than the fact that minghui likes him so much and tried to persuade me to watch his drama, and that he sings really well, i don't know other things about JGS.
which is why i didn't expect this scandal to break out.
Seoul International Drama Awards. we cassies pin our hopes in this one award in order to see our idols perform on stage without being blocked or cancelled. which is why we voted since the beginning, earnestly. fortunately facebook only allowed one vote per person, i thought, that way fans can't cheat by clicking too many times.
how naive i am.
just days ago, fans found out that their votes to yoochun had been changed to JGS and other actors. those who voted for SKKS and Chajadda also found their votes changed to Marry Me Mary and other OST.
i'm not saying JGS fans did it. but i am saying that Yoochun had been backstabbed by someone. or someones. i don't know. i just know that something fishy happened. and it's been documented by fans from THREE COUNTRIES: China, Japan, Korea. shocked, indignant, angry fans.
THIS is a very shocking proof. if you notice, it's written in 3 languages, japanese, korean and chinese, which means that fans from 3 countries had conducted their investigations and found unusual discrepancies in the system. if you don't wanna click on the link, no worries, i have downloaded the images and attach them below. i'm just scared some parties would take down the link, like they did to other URLs, so i safe them in my desktop for safekeeping.
this Korean chart showed how yoochun consistently gained 1 vote while the other person (i could only read the "Jung Ga"?) could gained up to 4 thousands in one go (see the sharp spike)
this showed the increment of yoochun's votes in relation to geun seuk. note the time is in beijing and the comment is in Chinese, showing that this is contribution of the Chinese fans.
this is screencapped proof of unusual increment of JGS votes, complete with the clock as to proof the time measurement for each cap. again, Chinese fans with Chinese comments.
this is Japanese caps that shows the observation that within 10 hours JGS gaines 14,000 votes.
i really don't wish to point fingers at anyone. i'm just saying that with these proof, you can't deny that something fishy was happening. in fact i'm more inclined at the possibility that someone else is rigging the votes just so that yoochun WOULDN'T WIN, and the easiest way to do that is by making the runner up come into the top position, and JGS happened to be just that. JGS might just had been at the wrong place at the wrong time (runner up just before they close votings).
i have great faith in fans, i don't think fans would want their idols to win in dishonest matter. we take pride in ourselves when we manage to get our idols to be recognised due to their effort and our effort, not because of cheap rigging and cheating! and i'm sure JGS fans are like that too! they might be completely innocent in this, we don't know! so please stop bashing them, Cassies. we know we've been backstabbed, but don't point our fingers at other fandoms without clear proof...
if you have clear proof, tell me about it. drop me an email at "n(underscore)takikawa(at)hotmail."
in the meanwhile, i'm more inclined to believe that there is greater evil at play here. the KBS Jeju Scandal is still too fresh in mind! so, SBS, KBS, whatever BS-es, if you somehow one way or another are involved in this, i pray that you become really just like your name: BS, aka Bull Shit!
*fumes*
edit: just found out a forum in which JGS fans taught one another how to vote indifinitely.... i took down a screencap just in case they take it down to remove evidence:
*speechless now*

about: Yochan underwent a surgery to correct his spine, a problem that had persisted since 1995, when he finally started to feel numbness in his fingers. the surgery went fine, thank goodness. hopefully he will recover completely and it doesn't affect his piano playing. as for drums...don't forget your neck braces everytime you drums, yochan!
etc: read below xD i've made too many layouts featuring Yoshiki i don't wish to repeat myself =P

Featuring: Versailles
Background: formed in 2007 by founding member Kamijo (ex Lareine) and Hizaki (ex Sulfuric Acid), they released their debut single Revenant Choir which tells a story about a clan.
Just as like Kamijo's past works, Versailles tells a story through their symphonic metal music and extravagantly elaborate costumes inspired from antique European era.
Members: Kamijo (vocals), Hizaki (guitar), Teru (guitar), Jasmine-You (bass), Yuki (drums)
etc: Versailles beautiful music managed to win my heart totally. saddened by the loss of Jasmine-YOU in 2009, but i hope the 4 of them will still make great music from now onwards. rest in peace, Jasmine-YOU, and watch out for the guys from up there...

Background: Formed in 2007, performed first during Anime Expo at the States in May.
Members: Yoshiki (drums, piano, guitar), Gackt (vocal, piano), Sugizo (guitar, violin), Miyavi (guitar, shamisen)
etc: ekkusu phase 2.0 was lost because i didn't save it in photobucket (because it refused to upload it properly).
and so, from now i'll start my skin from phase .1 instead of .0

Icons: various facial expressions of Hiruma, the maniacal, elven-faced leader of Devilbats ^^
Etc: Eyeshield 21 is a sports manga about American Football and it's one of my current favourite.
My rating for them is:
hilarity 10/10
excitement: 9/10
intellectual level: 9/10
