another day spent overnight in school to do sewing. i arrived in school on friday morning 10.30 am and left it on saturday morning 6am. seems like in the past month i kept renewing my record of staying in school for the longest time. the last time i went home in the morning was when i was with merry, to do blouse assignment, and i left by 4.30am. thank goodness that this time our 'staying over' was not due to lck of time, but instead because we wanted to finish our garment as soon as possible. took the very first bus of 77 at 6.40 and reached home at 7. 10. it was a foggy, hazy morning and when i reach home, i saw maids roaming about their respective house, throwing garbage, watering the plant, washing cars..kinda made me miss home, coz i guess that's what happen back in jakarta too at that ungodly hour in the morning. Labels: drama movie
i watched Death Note: The Last Name with Joyce on its premiere day on 19th oct. how do i say this, there are 2 people inside of me who want to give comments which are opposite in nature, the cruel-cum-critical hana who gave all those nasty comments about harry potter movies and the pro-anything-japanese hana who wouldn't say a bad thing about japan as far as she can allow. let's start with the nastier me, shall we?
WARNING: SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so, Death Note the movie is made. when i heard that tatsuya fujiwara is playing Light, i was kinda concerned. as far as i remember of him in Battle Royale, he doesn't look particularly like a genius, and so i was quite worried. when i watched the movie, though, my concerns about him not looking good or clever enough was put aside due to the emergence of something that i've not foreseen before: the way the movie played that put an extremely bad light upon Light (no pun intended).
i know that movies can convey limited amount of expression ofthe original story and limited ability to carry out what the original mangaka would like to portray, but still i was extremely disappointed when they made Light looked like such a bad, cruel, psychotic guy who wishes nothing but bad to all the criminals. in the manga, Light's rationale and motive was clearly explained and stressed, and so was his objection, his initial refusal, his knowledge of that what he was doing was NOT totally GOOD -but still essential- and his sacrifice to make the world a better place than what it was now, by sacrificing himself and his conscience. those factors are really really important in the battle between Light and L, the main thing that divides the readers into 2 groups, each on L and Light's side, each with equally explainable, acceptable reasons for doing what they were doing. this battle between 'for good cause' versus 'for better course' was what made the manga very interesting to follow in the first place, coz you never know who to be supportive of, L or Light, and this is the backbone of L and Light's fight!
HOWEVER, in the movie, with them putting such a bad character on Light, the battle is no longer so complicated. it has been reduced to mere good-versus-bad battle, with Light being in the bad side and L in the good side. which is boring v.v sorry, but this was the major reason i was disappointed with the movie. Light's true motive, his true objective, his sacrifice was just totally being undermined in the movie, making him looked like what i described just now: badm cruel, psychotic guy who wishes nothing but evil to all the criminals. meanwhile L was portrayed as someone who's good, cute, adorable (if not weird) and someone definitely to be supportive of. sheesh...
it was always fun to find other Death Note readers and ask them 'who are you supportive of' for i never know who they're supportive of, and it's always fun to find out the reason why they were supportive of whoever they're supporting. BUT, for the movie, i think it's pointless to ask who are people supportive of, coz for EVEN ME, who's a fervent supporter of Kira in the manga, is on L's side in the movie. sheesh... boring! v.v
another essence of the manga that the movie was totally lacking of was: the battle of foresight. it was perhaps THE main battle of Light and L, because each has to predict the other's future actions and react to it in a way that is suited him best. this battle of foresight was exactly how the mangaka show Light and L's level of genius-ness (does such word exist?) but the movie doesn't portray that, like totally >.<>.<) i'm very sad and disappointed with the way joyce reacted after watching the movie, coz i know that's how the general population would react after watching the movie too: full of reverence and praises towards L, not a word about Light apart from the little remark: i like L better than Light. v.v geez.. i told her countless of times that Light-kun is really NOT as bad as they made him in the movie (well at least NOT at that point of time of the story. much later, perhaps, yes) and that Light has his own reasons for what he was doing too. my comment was unheeded, though. and praises about L's cleverness too arrrghhhhhh!!! Light-kun is JUST AS CLEVER AS (if not more clever than) L!!!!!!!! >.<
alright, i guess that's enough from the cruel-cum-critical hana. now this is the opinion of the pro-anything-japanese hana.
I LOVE L! he's totally adorable inthe movie!! if in the manga he doesn't look desirable, in the movie he looked extremely cute and appetizing xD his actions often made the whole cinema laugh, coz it's really weird and unexpected, but nevertheless funny. for example when he was skewering doughnuts, cakes and breads and made them looked like huge kebab, and then he offered one to Light's dad xD that was funny! and it's amazing how much details the producers had portrayed in regards of L's characteristics. the 3 that i noted (apart from his always-eating-and-playing-with-food habit) are: the way L handled communicative device (handphone, walkie-talkie), the way he always sit (squatting down) and his habit of scratching his feet sometimes, and the way he's nimble and moved as though he barely noticed it. L was a complete sweetheart in the movie. he doesn't look as straggly and monkey-like as in the manga, but instead he has good-looking face! oh man, L's supporters, you definitely MUST NOT MISS watching the movie!!
Ryuk was another accomplishment achieved by the movie makers. he looked EXACTLY like in the manga, which was awesome! facial and body details, the way he talked, movie, stand, fly, it was perfectly like in the manga, cool! =D i'm expecting other shinigami (namely Remu, later) to be as well-made as Ryuk is.
eventhough there's deviation from the original manga, the storyline basically follows similar plot and i like the way they follow the details for those separate scenes. for example, the experiments Light made upon the prisoners that sends poem to L, the bus hijackers and his actions, Light's strategy of watching the news from the portable TV he put inside a bag of chips, Ryuk's vehement protests at Light's refusal to give him any apples (which was really cute xD) and the incident happening upon Misamisa.
unfortunately that's basically all the good stuff that i can say about the movie. but i still like the movie and i don't mind watching it the second time. the fact that they are making one of my favourite manga out into a movie had, straight away, added 100 plus points in the favour of the movie ^________^ the second death note movie, bring it on!!! i'm anxiously waiting to see the angel-like Near =D
total rating i'd give the movie: 8.5! go and watch it!! ^__________^
oh by the way, go here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCpRdFZJTuU
i totally agree on some of the comments left behind by people, especially the part about 'the movie should NEVER go to hollywood coz probably they'll copy it and turn it into crap or have shitty DUB' *nods* the original is ALWAYS the best. The Ring, Ju-On and Darkwater should STAY japanese! and Animax should STOP dubbing!! i ALWAYS wince everytime i hear their dubs, oh goodness, horrid experience everytime... long live originl japanese voice castings and subtitles!!! long live Arts Central for keeping the original anime voice castings and providing subtitles instead!!!! banzaiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yep, this is that time of the term (or semester, rather) again: assessment and deadlines time! this time it's warped together with assessment week, which is like my exam, so i'm like doubly busy. i'm sorry for those who've left me messages and friends request and blog as well as profile comments coz i've not been able to reply them, yet v.v but in 3 weeks, it's all gonna be over, so i'll be good to all of you then
i'll tell you my accomplishment: i managed to stop watching bleach! wahahahaha =P last week i was sooooo absorbed in watching bleach in youtube that i finished 60 episodes within 5 days... means: 20minx60=1200 minutes=20 hours! each day approximately 4 hours of watching bleach! goodness... thanks to that now i'm a bleach fan, and i'm head over heels with Urahara-sama but i realised that my project will be in hell of a mess if i continue watching. SO, after that segment ends, when ichigo's fight with byakuya ended, i promised not to watch anymore until after my assessment ends. and i've managed to do that ^__^ i'm so proud of this achievment. now no more playing around until november! even though i want to blog so often and i want to visit screamingKIAI more often too (goodness knows how much news i've missed and perhaps the board's quite messy now, melrudin, i'll be counting on you v.v) i have to restrain myself and just WORK WORK WORK
oh i started making my toil of my very first topwear =D me and mira finished ours yesterday, but while mira's became too small to fit onto the dolly, mine became too big until even I can wear it xD lol, so funny... i think this thursday i'll be spending the night in school to sew a new one after all *sigh*
so then, jyaa~

ah yeah, i'm madly in love with urahara-sama from bleach now xD wahahaha... and also yoichiro-sama, and also hitsugaya-taichou-sama, and also renji and byakuya and ichigo too wahahahaha okay i gotta stop now.
okay, gotta go back to my project, geez, it's just another 3 weeks and it'll be over, but it seem that i can put my mind on my projects >.<

featuring: Yoshiki
about: Yochan underwent a surgery to correct his spine, a problem that had persisted since 1995, when he finally started to feel numbness in his fingers. the surgery went fine, thank goodness. hopefully he will recover completely and it doesn't affect his piano playing. as for drums...don't forget your neck braces everytime you drums, yochan!
etc: read below xD i've made too many layouts featuring Yoshiki i don't wish to repeat myself =P
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v457/arsenalx/?action=view¤t=ekkusu3.jpg
Featuring: Versailles
Background: formed in 2007 by founding member Kamijo (ex Lareine) and Hizaki (ex Sulfuric Acid), they released their debut single Revenant Choir which tells a story about a clan.
Just as like Kamijo's past works, Versailles tells a story through their symphonic metal music and extravagantly elaborate costumes inspired from antique European era.
Members: Kamijo (vocals), Hizaki (guitar), Teru (guitar), Jasmine-You (bass), Yuki (drums)
etc: Versailles beautiful music managed to win my heart totally. saddened by the loss of Jasmine-YOU in 2009, but i hope the 4 of them will still make great music from now onwards. rest in peace, Jasmine-YOU, and watch out for the guys from up there...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/arsenal_x/ekkusu2.1copy.jpg
featuring: S.K.I.N.
Background: Formed in 2007, performed first during Anime Expo at the States in May.
Members: Yoshiki (drums, piano, guitar), Gackt (vocal, piano), Sugizo (guitar, violin), Miyavi (guitar, shamisen)
etc: ekkusu phase 2.0 was lost because i didn't save it in photobucket (because it refused to upload it properly).
and so, from now i'll start my skin from phase .1 instead of .0

Model's background: manga character (Eyeshield 21)
More about the model: quarterback of Deimon Devilbats, The Commander From Hell;
the backbone and the brain behind Deimon High School's American Football Club, The Deimon Devilbats.
Icons: various facial expressions of Hiruma, the maniacal, elven-faced leader of Devilbats ^^
Etc: Eyeshield 21 is a sports manga about American Football and it's one of my current favourite.
My rating for them is:
hilarity 10/10
excitement: 9/10
intellectual level: 9/10
drawing: 7/10
characterisation: 9/10

Featuring: Hayashi Yoshiki
Model's background: leader, drummer, pianist, main composer of legendary band X Japan (1982-1997); leader, drummer, pianist,

More about the model: the faint background picture of Yoshiki was taken in the recent years when he's already cut his hair short and
started the habit of wearing sunglasses.
Icons: pictures taken from Yoshiki's house in LA: his front door, piano in the middle room, dining room and swimming pool.
Etc: I can write essays on Yoshiki, but let's just keep it simple and straightforward: YOSHIKI IS MY HERO AND IDOL!
