i used to prowl around westmall visiting shops and looking at their bargains once in a while. sometimes i got great bargains, like the 6 classical CDs i bought for 20 bucks. now, though, i'm too far away from westmall to be able to do that. so i was thinking that now i gotta get myself a new place where i can prowl and poke around shops, looking at their things that might interest me. and by golly i've found it! My inner child is ten years old! The adult world is pretty irrelevant to me. Whether I'm off on my bicycle (or pony) exploring, lost in a good book, or giggling with my best friend, I live in a world apart, one full of adventure and wonder and other stuff adults don't understand.
bras basah.
it was a place where almost all art sudents know for there are loads of things to find there, starting from a really big popular, art friends and its location which nearby bugis which is also quite popular for its printing services. i used to stare blankly at my friends whenever they mention this place, for i was a western-girl, my expertise is at location like westmall or clementi, not somewhere central like bugis area. but now, i think i'm going to be around brash basah area quite often. apart from the national library which is just across a small road, that place also houses a lot of bookshops and CD-stores, the 2 top favourite shops in my list =)
went to BookPoint just now, the store was having a mega 40% sale storewide. i had just finished shopping for my stuff at popular and i went there without actually thinking of getting anything (bookshops always manage to attract me in, i don't know why...). then i saw at one of the racks the books that i was looking for for quite some time: Lord Of The Rings! there were 3 books, 2 volumes of The Two Towers and 1 volume of The Return Of The King, all were different edition and was in varying state. asked the uncle whether there was any 1st volume available and the uncle said no. so i chose 2 books which were in a better state and went browsing at other part of the rack. i found a better-looking The Return Of The King, so i took it. there was also a really interesting book called: There And Back Again. if any LOTR fan out there remembers, it was the name of the book that Frodo wrote and asked Sam to continue writing before he left. this time, though, the book was written, not by Sam, but by Sean Austin. it was non-fiction, about the behind the scene happenings throughout LOTR making from his point of view. i was sorely tempted to buy it, it was just 22bucks!! with the 40% discount it'll be just 13bucks!
BUT, perhaps another day. my bag was very heavy with books which i borrowed from the library (i managed to get Asterix&Obelix books! yay!!) and i thought perhaps i should buy it when i have more time to devote to books, not just a few minutes every night before sleep and every morning while eating breakfast.
so, i went to the uncle to pay my books. the uncle was really kind, though, he wanted to search the 1st volume at another rack, which i didn't know existed. so i browsed there again, slowly scanning the Js and Ts area while tipping the front books down so i could read the books behind the 1st row. i didn't find it. BUT, i found something else. Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley, it's the sequel of the famous novel Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell, which was one of my favourite novels too. i didn't see Gone With The Wind though, so i put it back to the rack =P and, i saw something else again. The Silmarillion, by J.R.R. Tolkien, is the story about first Dark Lord in the Middle Ages. what made me interested in it was that the story contained Elrond and Galadriel too. i'm really interested in the story of the elves in LOTR, and the wizards too, they seem so mysterious and intriguing coz they have really long lives and they hide a lot of stories in their memories.
i bought all 3 books by Tolkien. the uncle promised he'd look for the 1st book volume for me =) thanks uncle! you're really nice! ^__^ so there i spent 11 bucks on 3 books which i don't know when i'd get the time to sit down and read. i expect soon, though, perhaps after i finished my current Agatha Christie's Dumb Witness, i'm a Poirot reader now ^^ so happy ^^ the last time i bought cheap books was during the library fair, and the condition of the books that i got was much worse than these books i just bought. i expect i'll be patronising Book Point quite often from now ^^
downstairs i saw a CD shop called ShangHai Book or something. it caught my attention because it was playing an orchestra concert at the TV in front of the shop. i took a look at their CD rack and found many great CDs in bargain price. complete works of Beethoven in 5 CDs for less than 20bucks, complete works of Tchaikovsky including the Swan Lake, Ssleeping Beauty and Nutcracker and my favourite 'Piano Concerto No 1' in 5 CDs for 15bucks, and other 'complete works' by other composers like brahms, strauss, liszt, mozart, rossini, etc. too bad i've spent my money on the books upstairs, if not i think i'd be considering seriously to get the complete Beethoven sonatas. it's 33bucks for 11 CDs =P
joyce was at one of her L-state just now, coz it's monday and we were at plaza singapore where last week (exactly on monday) she met the guy cosplaying L. at that time, i wasn't with her. merry was though, and she immediately called me.
merry: halo, han? ada emergency nih... (got emergency)
me: emergency apa? (what emergency?)
merry: nih, talk to the girl yourself *hands out phone to joyce*
joyce: *tone almost hysterical* hallo hana? I SAW L!!
me: ...what?!?!??! you saw L?? where are you??????
joyce: *still somewhat hysterical tone* spotlight! can you come down here now????
me: *looks around, i was at at suntec area, but i didn't know how to get the bus to go back PS, the road was one way!!* i don't know how!!! you're late for a few minutes, i just dropped from the buy which passed by PS! ehh!!! take picture!!!
joyce: i don't dare!! can you come down now??? he' s really like L you know, the way he stand and walk and squat...
.
.
. (basically me and joyce kept repeating the lines "can you come down?" and "i don't know how!" and "take picture!" over and over)
*phone handed out to mira*
mira: halo hana? iya ada L disini. (yeah, got L here)
me: ehh mir!! foto donkkk biar gw bisa liat juga! (eh take his picture leh so that i can see him too)
mira: ehehehe *************** (something that i don't wish to reveal to anyone, just in case the L guy is reading this)
me: foto! foto! foto!!!!! *literally jumps up and down at the street, receives stares from passers by*
mira: iya iya
well, that was last week, and since then, whenever anyone brought up the subject of L, dear joyce would switch off to her L-state, literally blabbering anything and everything about L, and she recites poems too xD the fact that the L guy was with his friends and there was also a girl cosplaying misamisa was driven off her mind (though sometimes was brought up, with a sudden change in tone), all she thought was how she regretted not taking his picture, which i blamed her too (coz in the end i can't see this guy!) and which she blamed some part on me (coz she claimed that if i was there, i would've dared to talk to him and take his picture, which was untrue, unfortunately). the fact that she was a fanatic of L before she met that guy adds to the severity of the obsession to L, i'd declare her now positively addicted and obesessed to L. sometimes she switched to L-mode all by herself, so me and my friends are learning the art of feigned ignorance just to shut her up xDD oh i'm just kidding xP
anyway, we crossed our fingers as we entered PS, but we didn't see the L-guy today. perhaps next week monday he'll be there again? ^^ we've promised that the next time we saw him, we WILL talk to him =D oh i don't know whether i'll be able to live up to the promise, but i'm keeping the hope, of seeing any Death Note cosplayers walking around Singapore, alive.

for the last 2 weeks, my wednesdays constitute of whole day pattern-making and sewing in school til 12am or 7.30 in the following morning, my thursdays constitute of lunchless and dinnerless day with sewing until 12am and the rest of the weekdays (and even weekends!!) were spent doing homework, researching and collecting fabric samples from arab st and chinatown. by the end of this week itself 3 of my friends had fallen sick and today's attendance itself was quite horrible. and the workload isn't decreasing at all, in fact it's starting to get even worse... Labels: school
if this condition continues for the next few weeks, i really will snap...
despite the fact that some students don't have sewing machine at home and despite the incredible amount of work increament they've given us this new semester, the school had released new rule that forbid us from sewing overnight in school. add that to the fact that the number of sewing machines available (as in on working condition) and the availability of the classrooms for us to use the sewing machine is actually very limited (i guess the total number of workable sewing machine in all the rooms accomodating sewing machines is around 10 or less, and the classrooms themselves aren't always available to be used with so many other classes and other level classes having their lessons conducted in those rooms), it's no wonder that everywhere i keep hearing the phrase, "the school system s*cks! we can't even do our homework!" what drives me really mad was the fact that they told us to have 'better time management' without even considering that we ARE trying to manage our time and work within the very limited working condition that had been provided for us...
if next week there are still less than 10 sewing machines available to be used, i'll really talk this out with my lecturers!
on the bigger picture, i've decided to adopt another mantra to help me cope with this new crazy semester, this time it comes from Hiruma (and he quoted it from someone else in the NFL) and it goes like this, "The difference between a great person, a normal person, and a loser lies in the amount of time they spent recovering from setbacks. A great person wastes almost no time and will recover immediately. A normal person usually takes a little while but will be back on his feet eventually. A loser never gets back on his feet." nice huh? =) today one of my lecturer actually was pretty harsh during my consultation with him, and i was very down for a while because even after he what he had told me, i still don't know what he wanted, and him rising his voice (even just a little, but i could feel it, and i was intimidated by it) wasn't helping at all... but, oh well, that long mantra up there works pretty well for me =)
now i'm trying quite hard to unwind and destress myself even for one night, coz tomorrow i gotta start doing my homeworks again, and thinking about it really drives all thoughts about destressing away from my head >.<

Tuesday 23 January 2007
well well well, here i am again, in full access of internet again (this year onwards i'm using cable, starhub's) and i can't do more than type down a couple or more stuff in this blog. i'm sorry hiruma, i won't be seeing you often *hugs hiruma* i'm just so busy nowadays with schoolwork that i'm so scared of getting attached to the internet again >.< these 3 weeks are the horriblest and terriblest 'first-three-weeks-of-school' weeks i've ever experienced in my whole entire life. with workload already looming over our head just on the very first week itself, and by the second week i've spent one night staying in school to do my sewing til 7.30am, which usually i wouldn't do unless assessment week is just around the corner. doubtless that now we're in 2nd semester that we're getting more work, but this feels like we're constantly just 1 week away from assessment and that's really putting me on my nerves... Labels: school
on one hand i would very much like to slack. just look at what some of my friends are doing, like skipping the whole week of school to go hongkong, hor lin =P other people in other departments don't look like they've started doing much homework either, evident in the fact that when me and mira stayed overnight in school, there were already no students at all at 8pm in the school. why am i getting so freakin stressed trying to complete all my work and trying to complete my work well when some other people are clearly taking things easy??
the answer lies on the other hand: expectation of lecturers. i don't know if it's a curse in disguise, but this semester i still have really nice lecturers for all my subjects. and to disappoint such lecturers is really hard than to just ignore bad lecturers. i especially like a new class i have this semester, textile design and studies, and my lecturer is so laid-back, full confidence that we can do and complete our work at our own pace and doesn't seem to be pushing us too hard that i feel really bad if i don't do my work properly v.v i really enjoy making garments as part of my production method class this semester, but that in itself was the most taxing work of all, requiring the most effort and number of hours to complete, and i'd hate it of by the end of the week i don't produce something for my lecturer to advise me on. pattern drafting is still the easiest work, provided that i do all my work in class properly, if not by the end of the semester all those patterns would catch up and became the work with the most hassle to complete. design studio and illustration this semester seems like being combined into one, meaning that if i make sure i do my work for illustration class, i would have something to show my design studio teacher. quite unexpectedly, this semester we're only supposed to do one collection, BUT the bulk of it gotta be finished by the 1st term which would leave the rest of the semester free to make our garment into real outfit, not just a top or a bottom anymore.
just when i'm about to use Yoh's mantra, which runs as: "nantoka naru" (trans: someting will happen / i'll figure something out later), as my own mantra in getting over this semester save and sane, i feel that mantra alone wouldn't be enough to sustain me halfway. but, well, i can always try til the limit of the effectiveness of the mantra. nanto ka naru..tte? =)

hana went missing from the net world for several weeks, except from certain places where she could just pop in a minute and pop out again. i'm sorry for not wishing some people merry christmas, like my friends in indo whom i don't know their numbers, and friends whom handphone number i still haven't asked for again (my hp went missing some months ago) and friends in screamingKIAI and yochan. anyway wishing everyone a happy new year 2007 now ^^ hope the new 'golden pig' year brings golden experience and success to all of us! ^__^
since today's 1st january 2007, let's wish happy birthday to the new year babies. my st marg's mate, ivana in canada, hope that you're well and healthy ^^ not to mention the new year manga babies which are, unexpectedly, quite a number of them from the manga i've read (not to mention the manga i've NOT read) like: Sephiria Arks (Number I) from Black Cat, Shihouin Yoruichi-san from Bleach, Tao Ren from Shaman King, Kumosubi Daikichi from Eyeshield 21 and Maito Gai-sensei from Naruto. happy birthday!!
incidentally yesterday was urahara kisuke-san's birthday (31st dec) and i made all of my family members (excluding my dad) to say happy birthday to my cute urahara handphone chain ^^ too bad i don't have any of yoruichi-san's v.v i've searched for it in comics connection for months and couldn't find it v.v
yesterday me and my family went to watch the fireworks at Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ) from the freeway. last year we watched the one at Ancol, and it was superb! this year's one was quite as good, but it's rather shorter and it's greater for its landed fireworks rather than those which are being shot up high into the sky. like last year, the freeway was loaded and jammed with cars waiting to watch the fireworks from the freeway. with just less than S$1, the whole family could watch a great display of fireworks in all corners of jakarta, it was great! our spot was intended to be in front of Hailai, Ancol, but because we went there too early (10pm we were already there) we just slowly drifted along further and further up until we reached PRJ and stopped there. rather a waste, i think ancol's fireworks display was still the best. but the good thing is: we were up in the highway and there are significantly less cars there (only 1 lane is used as 'parking slots' while in the opposite direction all 3 lanes were used up and the cars completely stopped while watching, causing great traffic jam even after the fireworks display was done) and we were able to go home smoothly after watching.
i just caught the Night At The Museum, staring Ben Stiller and Robin Williams, it was real cool! hilarious! i love the statue from easter island, "hey dum-dum! you got a gum-gum?' xDDDD it's super cuteee!!!!! xDD catch it, i think it's worth it ^^

featuring: Yoshiki
about: Yochan underwent a surgery to correct his spine, a problem that had persisted since 1995, when he finally started to feel numbness in his fingers. the surgery went fine, thank goodness. hopefully he will recover completely and it doesn't affect his piano playing. as for drums...don't forget your neck braces everytime you drums, yochan!
etc: read below xD i've made too many layouts featuring Yoshiki i don't wish to repeat myself =P

Featuring: Versailles
Background: formed in 2007 by founding member Kamijo (ex Lareine) and Hizaki (ex Sulfuric Acid), they released their debut single Revenant Choir which tells a story about a clan.
Just as like Kamijo's past works, Versailles tells a story through their symphonic metal music and extravagantly elaborate costumes inspired from antique European era.
Members: Kamijo (vocals), Hizaki (guitar), Teru (guitar), Jasmine-You (bass), Yuki (drums)
etc: Versailles beautiful music managed to win my heart totally. saddened by the loss of Jasmine-YOU in 2009, but i hope the 4 of them will still make great music from now onwards. rest in peace, Jasmine-YOU, and watch out for the guys from up there...

More about the model: the faint background picture of Yoshiki was taken in the recent years when he's already cut his hair short and
started the habit of wearing sunglasses.
