as i've reported before, i just got a new motherboard and hard drive from HP a few days ago which have revived my computer to its glorious life.
... or, perhaps, unglorious life.
within 2 days of the HDD installment (??) the audio stopped functioning. it was usually a cue for me to do a system recovery and reboot everything. thank goodness i don't lose any data when i do that. i need to reinstall everything, yes, but my data is intact. but anyway i've just got a new HDD so there wasn't anything inside yet. so i did a system recovery.
and the stupid audio still doesn't work.
so i did yet another round of system recovery. i thought i must be going mad, 2 days within new hard drive and here i am rebooting and reformating the PC, twice in a day!
and yet the stupid audio refused to work.
i was frustrated. there was a window prompting me to install driver for something... i thought it was for my wireless adapter. but when i clicked, it was actually asking for the driver for: Audio Device On High Definition Audio Bus.
what the heck was that....? well when the person installed my new hard drive, i saw him plugging his USB, but i asked if i would need to install whatever he was installing if i do system recovery and he said "don't need".
well, guess what, i do too!! i did a google search for that stupid phrase and found a link to the driver from yahoo!answer page. the questioner was so cute in phrasing his question: "i recently downgraded my computer from windows XP to windows Vista and ...." xDD thank goodness for the person who asked the question and the person who answered! my problem was solved. i downloaded the driver from realtek website, installed it, and voila! my sound came back. but this also means that everytime i do system recover i gotta reinstall this driver for the audio, which previously i didn't need to do...
i don't know about the motherboard, but the HDD supposedly be better than the last one... i mean, it has bigger capacity (if i remember correctly) but if this is the case, then it seemed more like a downgrade than an upgrade, ne?
btw people in MD also seemed to regard switching to windows vista as a downgrade instead of uphrade. hmmm...what happened, microsoft?

a once-hilarious topic had turned to be growing into a seriously-scary topic at a quite-alarming rate.
it began with a joke last december, "jadi papa ga bakalan nungguin gw cepet2 kawin kan?"
and my dad laughed and assured that though he doesn't want to be selfish and keep me by his side forever, he won't be forcing me into that area if i don't wish to.
and then another joke came, "kalo mo cari jodoh mah di skul gw ga bisa deh, cowok2nya aja lebih dari stengah ke arah sana." (read: g4y)
and then it came, the discussion of the importance of school as a place where you can find elligible bachelors, as in: straight, rich, good personality, good background, and dependable kind of bachelor. in other words: a perfect prince charming that always appear in romance novels, whom if i marry, my story will end with a "and they live happily ever after". i can't tell you how hilarious it was, discussing this kind of thing with your parents. it might be a regular joke between friends, but i've never brought it to my parents ears. it was freakin funny!
...at that time.
once my dad start repeating it more than once, it's starting to grow an ominous aura around it....
"hana, loe blajar bisnis lah," he said, and then went on to his favourite example, "pilih yang mana, loe pulang dari kerja mesti pasang celemek, trus masak buat suami loe makan abis pulang kerja, ato pulang kerja, tinggal duduk di sofa, minta dibawain minum ama pembantu, sante2 nonton tv..."
LOL! to think i used to believe that my parents are realistic, no day-dreaming kind of parents, and they can come up with such a drama as an example xD well, my dad was an avid follower of "Tersandung", i mean "Tersanjung" (duno which season, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7), so i guess he's had his share amount of indonesian sinetron to come up with such scenario.
...but seriously, the dark ominous aura is there... subtle, it hasn't even been spoken yet, not to mention discussed, but the message is floating about in the air: you better start thinking about getting a suitable suitor and think about your future (read: marriage!!)
>_< the horror of growing up.....

...not to leave work to the last minute?
well, hey, i've learnt! bit by bit! though now i'm still left with a load of work just hours before the deadline, at least it's much less than what i usually did =P
talking about teachers, with last week's lesson, i've been reminded of a very important sayings: don't judge a book by its cover. i think i learned that lesson last year when i first saw jonathan, and last week again when i talked to yet another teacher whom i initially thought was unapproachable dan kayaknya ga bakalan gt berguna anyway, and yet i learnt so so much from him, and when we talked to him, he was friendly beyond my expectations.
i guess not all teachers are there to bring you down, huh? ^^ thank you teachers!
as i get to understand more about "the concept of a concept" (trust me, i was not being confused when i wrote that) i feel the growing excitement in me. slowly, yet surely, it's building, the interest in fashion design, the one that had been slowly dwindling down ever since i stepped into the course due to the fact that i was never entirely sure of what i was doing.
here's praying that i can build it up properly and back it up with substantial amount of work and effort so that come next year i won't be intimidated by anything or anyone anymore!
anyway speed updates: we had the second reunion dinner cum valentine's gokon *cough* i mean dinner, at palm garden last thursday. tuesday lin and nat told me about it, and incidentally that was the super-bad day that stressed the tears out of me, as well as some of my classmates too. and their call happen to come in after i got a really distressing call from a really distressed friend whose plight i was unable to help other than being a good listening ear *sigh* talk about being useless when someone needs you...
anyway, their call managed to cheer my mood enough so that i didn't start slacking for the rest of the week. in fact it made me do more work, so tht thursday i can enjoy myself without feeling guilty. i guess i owe them quite a lot, nanny and obachan ^^ arigatou ne!
the food was great! my first time eating rawon (don't laugh, it's true!), the batagor was really filling, but too bad i couldn't eat rina's chicken -_-;; spicy crab: i'll eat for the crab; spicy chicken: i'm not that fond of chicken meat anyway xDD we got too full until the desserts were untouched *sobs* so i exchanged mine with sbass xDD kue lapis for brownie, lol... we played twister XD such a funny game. something's wrong with the spinning wheel though, sometimes it always give you the same result for the same person =P i love taking pics with lin's slr!!! xDDD
hany had had her 19th birthday, happy birthday! told her no presents for her until the end of assessment and i really mean it. sorry for everyone whose birthday fall before the end of april coz you're gonna get nil from me. after assessment then we'll go present-hunting together, ne? ^_^
haven't been sleeping well this week... the whole of yesterday i spent in front of koko's laptop, doing my technical drawings and portfolio layout with Eyeshield21 commercial breaks every now and then to keep me awake. hany thought i wasn't doing my work properly. well, i was! it's just that with deadline looming closer and the mounting lack of sleep, my mind needs a refreshing treat every now and then =p
so, tomorrow's the D-day. today i'm supposed to finish up my toile, print all the layouts and do my illustrations. for some people illustrations will take days to finish. for me, everything takes about the same amount of time, and since everything else seems more pressing, i've left my illustrations to the last possible time. oops...
oh yeah, update about my dear computer. HPman came a few days ago and repaired the motherboard. EVERYONE, PLEASE BE WARNED NOT TO USE USB-POWERED DEVICES!!! IT WILL PUT A STRESS ON YOUR MOTHERBOARD AND SPOIL IT!!! TAKE LESSON FROM ME, DON'T USE USB-POWERED DEVICES!!!
it's okay if the device is connected to the USB and to the electric socket, like printer, or external hard disk. but if it's only connected through the USB, i suggest you don't use it. my stupid 10-bucks-apiece duckling USB-powered mini vacuum cleaner was the sole cause of my suffering right now *ughhh!!!* >_<''''''
after he repaired the motherboard, the computer started restarting on its own again *geez* and i told him about the initial problem of the comp before someone came to replace the motherboard a month ago. he checked the hard drive for me and it failed O.O so it means, apart from needing a new motherboard, i'll be needing a new hard drive too. and it means that all my memory will be gone! AAUUGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 month, 2 motherboards and 1 hard drive. this feels like the prelude to my record-breaking 5-crashes-a-year history with the my previous Acer >_< i hope everything will be alright next tuesday...

Saturday 2 February 2008
well, for me it feels like a reunion dinner, coz it was the first time in 2 years that i've seen my JC classmates again. yessichan is in town for a few days and we had this dinner to catch up with her. so today there were 11 of us at Thai Express paragon and later on we moved on to Cine's Long John for dessert. well, officially 10, me, yessichan, xiaoling, xiaohui, saleha, reuben, sookyee, guru, sihui and garrel were at Thai Express; willy came much later and didn't order anything. orchard was so crowded that in the end we chose the place of our dinner and dessert based on the availability of seats rather than the type of food >"< Labels: history
i'm surprised to admit that since i moved down closer to town, the time i spent in orchard is actually much lesser than last time! in fact, it's been a looong long while since i've spent almost a whole friday in town. unlike last time when time was still in abundance during weekend for leisure activities and mise xclusive was still JRock oriented and i was still oblivious to the ease and convenience of onlince CD stores, now weekends (and that includes friday after class) are spent at home, recuperating from a week's worth of stress and at the same time start stressing out for next week's workloads (usually sunday nights) and Heeren doesn't seem as enticing as last time coz mise xclusive is gone and i like browsing through http://hmv.co.jp/ more than the local HMV. the only time i go to orchard is for kino, whether or not to check out new magazines, or to hunt one that i really want to buy, and for Art Friend, which sometimes i browse through with not much interest anyway (the art friend at bras basah is more complete and the art friend near school is more convenient).
and apparently i've forgotten just how freakin crowded and packed orchard is on fridays, and the human traffic doesn't ease when night comes! at 11, when we were leaving, restaurants and cafes were still full of people, the bus was still packed and the traffic is still moving slowly. gee... like the whole singapore is out on these hang-out places every weekends... people should start learning from me and stay home during weekends watching anime, or House M.D., or reading manga xD
anyway, i realise that i have this natural schizophrenic instinct in me that just wants to be alone and be left alone that instinctively refuses most invitations for gatherings. well, some gatherings are exclusively ignored by this instinct and thus i always turn up at their place now and then, but during the rare times when i'm not refusing invitation, i never regret the decision. it was nice to catch up with everyone after 2 years. oh my goodness, 2 bloody years had passed since A's! 4 gigantic years had passed since O's! *shudders* time doesn't fly. it hires a supersonic jet plane and decided to speed through us in a blink of an eye.
nobody changed much these past 2 years, the 04S55 people that i know are still the same as they were as when we were still wearing white and blue and striped SAJC ties. sihui is in nursing now, xiaohui (and i heard steph too) is in real estate while sookyee is in business, and we're all gonna be graduating next year. sa is n psychology, but i can't remember if her course is 3 years or 4. we were joking about the common misconception of people that psychologist can read minds, so funny. nxt time should as Qkho if she can read mine XD
the boys had finished their NS and will start uni this august. garrel is surprisingly close in proximity with me: he's working in simlim! my my... and not once have i stumbled upon him in simlim xD he will be in EEE NTU and guru still doesn't know where he's going and what course he'll be taking. luckily he'll have half a year to decide. or less...? unfortunately i couldn't remember reub's course... -_-"" sorry reuben... willy, nothing new with him since the last time i saw him. he updated me about the things happening in rasa sentosa though, i didn't know that Chin is no longer there... mimi will be so sad to hear about his departure to macau =P hehe, i'm kidding ^^ be back soon, Chin!
anyway, i wanna take the night easy since tomorrow i wanna tackle my technical drawing and start illustration >"< i won't be lagging behind in this project lest it gets dragged on and affect my diploma collection. still owe obachan a review for tuesday's la traviata.... perhaps tomorrow i'll blog about it ^^

featuring: Yoshiki
about: Yochan underwent a surgery to correct his spine, a problem that had persisted since 1995, when he finally started to feel numbness in his fingers. the surgery went fine, thank goodness. hopefully he will recover completely and it doesn't affect his piano playing. as for drums...don't forget your neck braces everytime you drums, yochan!
etc: read below xD i've made too many layouts featuring Yoshiki i don't wish to repeat myself =P
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v457/arsenalx/?action=view¤t=ekkusu3.jpg
Featuring: Versailles
Background: formed in 2007 by founding member Kamijo (ex Lareine) and Hizaki (ex Sulfuric Acid), they released their debut single Revenant Choir which tells a story about a clan.
Just as like Kamijo's past works, Versailles tells a story through their symphonic metal music and extravagantly elaborate costumes inspired from antique European era.
Members: Kamijo (vocals), Hizaki (guitar), Teru (guitar), Jasmine-You (bass), Yuki (drums)
etc: Versailles beautiful music managed to win my heart totally. saddened by the loss of Jasmine-YOU in 2009, but i hope the 4 of them will still make great music from now onwards. rest in peace, Jasmine-YOU, and watch out for the guys from up there...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/arsenal_x/ekkusu2.1copy.jpg
featuring: S.K.I.N.
Background: Formed in 2007, performed first during Anime Expo at the States in May.
Members: Yoshiki (drums, piano, guitar), Gackt (vocal, piano), Sugizo (guitar, violin), Miyavi (guitar, shamisen)
etc: ekkusu phase 2.0 was lost because i didn't save it in photobucket (because it refused to upload it properly).
and so, from now i'll start my skin from phase .1 instead of .0

Featuring: Hiruma Youichi
Model's background: manga character (Eyeshield 21)
More about the model: quarterback of Deimon Devilbats, The Commander From Hell;
the backbone and the brain behind Deimon High School's American Football Club, The Deimon Devilbats.
Icons: various facial expressions of Hiruma, the maniacal, elven-faced leader of Devilbats ^^
Etc: Eyeshield 21 is a sports manga about American Football and it's one of my current favourite.
My rating for them is:
hilarity 10/10
excitement: 9/10
intellectual level: 9/10
drawing: 7/10
characterisation: 9/10

Featuring: Hayashi Yoshiki
Model's background: leader, drummer, pianist, main composer of legendary band X Japan (1982-1997); leader, drummer, pianist,

More about the model: Yoshiki in the early X Japan era in early 90's when he still has long curly locks.
Etc: YOSHIKI IS MY HERO AND IDOL!

Featuring: Hayashi Yoshiki
Model's background: leader, drummer, pianist, main composer of legendary band X Japan (1982-1997); leader, drummer, pianist,
guitarist, composer of band Violet UK, debut coming soon. Born in Tateyama, Chiba (Japan) in 20th November 1965 and currently living in Los Angeles, California (USA).
Head company of Extasy Records, Extasy Japan and Extasy Records International (now defunct). http://myspace.com/yoshiki
More about the model: the faint background picture of Yoshiki was taken in the recent years when he's already cut his hair short and
started the habit of wearing sunglasses.
Icons: pictures taken from Yoshiki's house in LA: his front door, piano in the middle room, dining room and swimming pool.
Etc: I can write essays on Yoshiki, but let's just keep it simple and straightforward: YOSHIKI IS MY HERO AND IDOL!
